PVC sheet MSDS. as far as I can tell, no problems unless it is burning.  I am using speeds that are cutting it off in bits and definitely not melting it.

lengthened to 15 inches and created all toolpaths

vectors in pink, toolpaths in black

created new page for this project under projects- for specific dimensions and completed stages only. tested jig, decided to make .03 smaller

2/for a 2 piece jig

height of top cut= depth of deep cut minus depth of shallow cut. router would be adujsted to depth of deep cut. This means I will need a material that is thicker than the depth of the deep cut to provide a lip for the router to slide along during the shallow cut.

made true sized outline of the box in partwizard using the rectangle creation tool and .625 as a radius for rounding over the corners. I cut that outline and then tested to see if the box would fit, which it did. I then used the offset tool in partwizard to offset the cut by the radius of the router base minus the radius of the quarter inch router bit I plan to use. this was 2.83in. I cut that with an inside profile toolpath . Next I will either create an insert piece for that jig or make a new one with 2 layers. A two layered one would be better because the depth of the router would not have to be adjusted twice for each installation, but a possible problem with a thicker design like that would be the lack of flexibility to lie flush with the board since the bottom of the board is not a perfectly flat and level surface. PVC trim might be a good material for this because of its flexibility, but I'm not sure if it is made as wide as I need it.

The fins on the bottom of a surfboard are usually in boxes that are installed into the board. This allows fins to be taken off and replaced. The boxes are installed by routing out the proper shape then using fiberglass and resin to secure them in the hole. a kit that includes the routing template costs over 100 dollars, so I want to make my own routing jig for this purpose.

I got to this point

but the vector still does not come out well. Next class i will bring in box and router and try to design the jig directly in partwizard.

Reliant Shopvac is very weak compared to dust collection system, I do not think it will have enough suction. Testing with a piece of plywood on dust collection system with valve next to router open like it would be during a cut showed that it can hold a piece reasonably well but it is easily slid so that might not have enough suction either. When the valve at the router is shut, the holding power is greatly increased. Maybe if the dust was collected with Reliant vaccuum and dust collector was used for hold down this could work. The vaccuum hold down would most likely only be usable on small projects anyways so lots of dust would not be a big issue.

Found a post on shopbot forum about propane tanl based system but welding is required.

good info on maintenence

http://shopbotwiki.com/index.php?title=ShopBot_Maintenance

tabletop surfacing may be a good idea, we have a 1.5 inch bit to use

researched vaccuum hold down.

peterson bluebird house is same kind that I have previously built for the trustees of reservations.

designed side in part wizard. to be cut from rough pine boards from copeland lumber. since thicknesses will vary, I will expermment with useing the tool bed as the zero height so that less adjustment will be necessary.

1/13

Filed edges of existing stools to remove splinters and rough edges. This made them better looking and more comfortable to sit in.

1/12

Cut circle for hovercraft project

Vaccuum hose split open before cut, used duct tape to fix.

installed sketchup but deppfreeze took it away

1/?

Startd to figure out prodesktop using tutorials

1/7

Plan to create a routing jig for installing surfboard fin boxes

Created handdrawing of possible chair design, need to learn to use prodesktop so i can bring the design into that

12/23

learned how to import into partwizard from prodesktop quickly and easily. also how to zero z height easily

12/22

cut small circle for hovercraft project

found this on dust collection

http://www.talkshopbot.com/forum/messages/33572/33626.html?1220960465

shortened vaccuum hose by about a foot, tightned connections and tested new setup

made lots of changes to wiki to reorganize clutter and make everything easy to navigate

next

12/18

assembled stools, gathered scrap, swept dust from cut

todo: improve dust collection hose, broke in the last minute of cutting stools, flip this page so newest posts are on top.

next project idea: bench

12/17

cut remaining stools, looked for new project ideas

12/15

spent last classes modifying file for 5/8 thick underlayment particleboard, fine tuning thickness of slots for stools

12/8

found this on rounding over:

http://www.talkshopbot.com/forum/messages/29/15569.html

http://www.talkshopbot.com/forum/messages/2/1641.html

for roundover bit we have, I could use outside end mill toolpath with same diameter as bearing

12/5

Cut another bottom with widened slot to .75. Original was .72 so I needed to widen by .3, .15 on each side. Right click>properties on each point and added .125 to right side points and subtracted on left side. Legs slide together much easier now.

Cut rectangle for hovercraft for other class

to do: get more materials, I have only a bit of 3/4" left and not enough for any more legs

avantech- heavy, may chunk when rounded over

plywood- will probably splinter when rounded over

find out how to round over edges

get partworks on home computer to work on it at home

and something else i just forgot.

12/3

cut circle for hovercraft in other class

cut triangles for cart project

11/24

organized folders

worked on write up for make found here

Shopbot Stools

Link to make post: http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2008/11/tim_shopbots_stools.html

11/20

made this page

modified dxf file in part wizard and created new toolpaths for a leg with slit in bottom

cut new toolpath

modified top to be smaller, 14 inch diamter like the ones already in the school. had to move handles inward to make it fit

cut top

to do:

organize folders of cutting and part wizard files

modify file in partwizard to make slots in legs bigger

organize and add stuff to wiki
