created new page for this project under projects- for specific dimensions and completed stages only. tested jig, decided to make .03 smaller

height of top cut= depth of deep cut minus depth of shallow cut. router would be adujsted to depth of deep cut. This means I will need a material that is thicker than the depth of the deep cut to provide a lip for the router to slide along during the shallow cut.
made true sized outline of the box in partwizard using the rectangle creation tool and .625 as a radius for rounding over the corners. I cut that outline and then tested to see if the box would fit, which it did. I then used the offset tool in partwizard to offset the cut by the radius of the router base minus the radius of the quarter inch router bit I plan to use. this was 2.83in. I cut that with an inside profile toolpath . Next I will either create an insert piece for that jig or make a new one with 2 layers. A two layered one would be better because the depth of the router would not have to be adjusted twice for each installation, but a possible problem with a thicker design like that would be the lack of flexibility to lie flush with the board since the bottom of the board is not a perfectly flat and level surface. PVC trim might be a good material for this because of its flexibility, but I'm not sure if it is made as wide as I need it.

The fins on the bottom of a surfboard are usually in boxes that are installed into the board. This allows fins to be taken off and replaced. The boxes are installed by routing out the proper shape then using fiberglass and resin to secure them in the hole. a kit that includes the routing template costs over 100 dollars, so I want to make my own routing jig for this purpose.

Reliant Shopvac is very weak compared to dust collection system, I do not think it will have enough suction. Testing with a piece of plywood on dust collection system with valve next to router open like it would be during a cut showed that it can hold a piece reasonably well but it is easily slid so that might not have enough suction either. When the valve at the router is shut, the holding power is greatly increased. Maybe if the dust was collected with Reliant vaccuum and dust collector was used for hold down this could work. The vaccuum hold down would most likely only be usable on small projects anyways so lots of dust would not be a big issue.

peterson bluebird house is same kind that I have previously built for the trustees of reservations.
designed side in part wizard. to be cut from rough pine boards from copeland lumber. since thicknesses will vary, I will expermment with useing the tool bed as the zero height so that less adjustment will be necessary.

Cut another bottom with widened slot to .75. Original was .72 so I needed to widen by .3, .15 on each side. Right click>properties on each point and added .125 to right side points and subtracted on left side. Legs slide together much easier now.
